Shackerdale Loop

Route Length: 3 Miles

Time: Allow for 1 – 1.20 Hours

  • Turn left out of the café and head down the drive. At the road, turn right towards Car Colston (road sign at entrance to the farm).
  • At the bus stop on your left (opposite Lodge Lane), take a left in front of the bus stop, through the gate onto the footpath. As you enter the field follow the footpath to your right.
  • Cross the field, following the path, crossing two fields and over two footbridges, before crossing two further crop fields on the designated path. 
  • Arriving at the brook (often dried out), cross with care and turn immediately right. Take the path along the right hand side of the field.
  • Head through the large gate and across the green. Cross the road. Over the stile, cross the stone slab bridge.
  • Go around the old ‘nobbly’ tree and head diagonally to your right across the field. At the top right-hand corner of the field, cross a double stile.
  • Head along the path to the top left-hand corner of the field passing the copse of trees and pond on your left.
  • Go over the stile at the top of the field and across the wooden footbridge. Follow the path which runs through the small wood and between the hedgerow and the fence of the field on your right.
  • At the top of this path, cross over through the kissing gate and diagonally across the field in front of Shackerdale Farmhouse (seen up to your left).
  • At the next gate, turn left through the strip of orchard and then right over the stile or through the farm gate. Walk through the gap to your left. Turn right along the path, running along the left hand side of the hedgerow on your right.
  • At the bottom of the field, cross the next field diagonally left up to the top of the rise taking the path through the hedge. Head across the next field towards to the barn conversion properties up ahead and pass the old tree in the field on your left.
  • The path comes out onto the old A46. Turn right and up to the 90 degree bend at the top of Lodge Lane. 
  • Turn left through the entrance to the farm, signposted ‘FarmEco’. 
  • Back to the cafe for a well earned hot or cold drink and yummy slice of cake!

46 Loop

Route Length: 3.7 Miles

Time: Allow for 1.20 – 1.50 Hours

  • Turn left out of the café and head down the drive. At the road, turn right towards Car Colston (road sign at entrance to the farm).
  • At the bus stop on your left (opposite Lodge Lane), take a left in front of the bus stop, through the gate onto the footpath. As you enter the field follow the footpath to your right.
  • Cross the field, following the path, crossing two fields and over two footbridges, before crossing two further crop fields on the designated path. 
  • Arriving at the brook (often dried out), cross with care and turn immediately right, through the footpath gate and along the path along the right hand side of the field, up to the large aluminium gate. 
  • Head through the gate and turn right along the path in between the properties over to your right. Continue along the path across the field, heading in the direction of Car Colston church.
  • Once through the footpath gate turn immediately right, on through the next five bar gate and up to Spring Lane. Cross the road onto the marked footpath and walk straight ahead alongside the dyke on your right.
  • Follow the path all the way up onto the old A46 and then turn right and right again following the path/track around the foot bridge (not over it), re-joining the old A46.
  • Follow the road (running alongside the new A46) all the way to the corner with Lodge lane.
  • Turn right on Lodge Lane, heading back towards the café.
  • Turn right down Lodge Lane and keep going till you are almost at the end. Turn left through the entrance to the farm, signposted ‘FarmEco’. 
  • Back to the café for a well earned hot or cold drink and yummy slice of cake!

Trent Loop

Route Length: 7.5 Miles

Time: Allow for 2.5 – 3 Hours

  • Turn left out of the café and head down the drive. At the road, turn right towards Car Colston (road sign at entrance to the farm).
  • At the bus stop on your left (opposite Lodge Lane), take a left in front of the bus stop, through the gate onto the footpath. As you enter the field follow the footpath to your right.
  • Cross the field, following the path, crossing two fields and over two footbridges, before crossing two further crop fields on the designated path. 
  • Arriving at the brook (often dried out), cross with care and turn immediately right, through the footpath gate and along the path along the right hand side of the field, up to the large aluminium gate. 
  • Head through the gate and turn right along the path in between the properties over to your right. Continue along the path across the field, heading in the direction of Car Colston church.
  • Head through the footpath gate and turn immediately right. On through the next five bar gate, head up to Spring Lane and cross the road onto the marked footpath, walking straight ahead alongside the dyke on your right.
  • Follow the path all the way up onto the old A46, turning right and following the path over the farm track bridge crossing the A46.
  • Over the bridge, follow the track all the way to the top, turning left onto the East Bridgford/Kneeton road.
  • Head towards East Bridgford and take the first turning on the right onto the track with footpath signposted. Continue along the track taking the right turn onto the track heading over the ridge overlooking the Trent.
  • Continue along the ridge, down through the woods. After almost a mile the path drops down into the fields alongside the Trent.
  • Follow the footpath across the fields in-between the river and the tree line on your right. After about half a mile head over to the tree line, where there is a relatively new stile, with the path heading up through the woods.
  • At the next stile, continue up the hill across the field to the stile in the hedgerow. From here the footpath leads straight across the crop field and should be marked. At the next hedgerow the path leads through onto the next field, leading up to the road at Kneeton. Cross over the road and once again, follow the path (which should be marked) over the next two fields until the path starts to run along the left side of the woodland.
Trent walk 1
  • Follow the path alongside the woodland and you’ll come to the corner of the field that sits above the A46. Follow around this field to the opposite left hand corner where there is a stile taking you out onto the road that crosses the A46.
  • Cross the A46, turning right onto Lodge Lane. Follow the road around and turn left down Lodge Lane, away from the A46.
  • Head down Lodge Lane keep going till you are almost at the end, turning left through the entrance to the farm, signposted ‘FarmEco’.
  • Back to the café for a well earned hot or cold drink and yummy slice of cake!
